FUNDAMENTAL ANALYSIS BY NSFX 23.01.2014

Good morning,

Asian gauges closed in negative territory and the Nikkei 225 lost 125 points at 15,696 (-0.79%) and in Hong Kong the Hang Seng closed at 22,733.9 (-1.51%), down 348.35 points. In China the Shanghai Composite retraced one fourth of yesterday  gains and closed at 2,042.18 (-0.47%), down 9.57 points.  Data from HSBC and Markit Economics showed that Chinese manufacturing likely contracted this month, the first time in six months.

At 8:57 GMT in Europe the DAX is flat at 9,715 and the Stoxx 50 is up just 3.55 points (+0.13%). In Uk the FTSE100 is gaining 8.12 points at 6834.45 (+0.12%).

In the currency market the EurUsd is up 83 pips at 1.3631 (+0.61%) and the UsdJpy is losing 14 pips at 104.35 (-0.13%). UsdCad is up today as well and is trading at 1.1161 (+0.68%), with a gain of 75 pips. GbpUsd is struggling to stay above 1.66 and is trading at 1.6602 (+0.17%), up 27 pips.

The fact that the Usd is losing ground against the Eur and the Canadian dollar is weak against the greenback makes  EurCad one of the best performers of the day: the pair is trading at 1.5205.

Precious metals are calm this morning: Gold is trading at 1,237$/ounce (+0.08%) and Silver is below 20 $/ounce at 19.79$/ounce (+0.09%).

Microsoft will release its fourth quarter earnings today and at 13:30 GMT as usual the Jobless claims in US data is going to be released and at the same time in Canada will be released the Retail Sales figures.

At 16:00 GMT EIA Crude oil Stocks data will decide the direction of crude oil that is trading in the middle of the range 91.16-100.69 $/barrel.
